My brother and sister-in-law are having a
luau-themed party at their farm next week, and they have asked me to supply the music. I'm pleased that they view me as having an eclectic music collection, but unfortunately I don't own any Hawaiian music. Unless you count my dear Jack Johnson, which I was told was not "luau-ish" enough. Do any of you have any suggestions?

Aloha,
You will get the most for your money with compilation CDs rather than CDs from individual artists. (I have about 400 Hawaiian CDs, and I guess you're probably not ready to go that far!) Unfortunately, most compilations are tacky tourist junk that nobody with any musical taste or cultural awareness could enjoy.
But the good news is that I can recommend at least one *very* fine and varied collection that anyone from Hawaiian music newbies to knowledgeable island locals will enjoy: Pure Hawaiian, Vol. 2 http://www.mele.com/music/artist/%60ale%60a/pure+hawaiian+-+%60elua/ (The first volume is also very fine, but out of print) While you're at mele.com, you can cruise around and see what else you might like, but Pure Hawaiian is something that you can present with pride.

Aloha Pili,
I very much appreciate your suggestion - it sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for! Perfect!
Mahalo nui loa!
