Today my son brought home this poem printed on pretty paper as a kind of end-of-year gift from his teacher. I remember reading it a long time ago and liking it then, so I was pleased to be reminded of it.
Somebody Has To
Shel Silverstein
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
They're looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been complaining they're tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we cannot afford.
So please get your rags
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.

Your son's teacher sounds special. What a wonderful poem to give to a child as a gift at the end of the school year. Commencement!
